Supreme Court of Canada Chief Justice Richard Wagner has been serving as the Queen’s representative in Canada since Julie Payette resigned.
She left the post in January after an outside review found she had presided over a toxic work environment at Rideau Hall.
”I am proud to fulfil this constitutional duty but yes, yes, it’s been a lot of work,” said Wagner.
He adds he’s been assured a permanent replacement will soon be named.
Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc, and four outside advisers handpicked by the prime minister, have been reviewing possible replacements for months.
LeBlanc has also said the new governor general should be named by month’s end.
Justin Trudeau also raised the issue of appointing a replacement with the Queen last week during a meeting last week on the sidelines of the G-7 Summit.
