Less than a month after the remains of as many as 215 children were found in unmarked graves at the site of a former residential school in B.C., the Cowessess First Nation reveals ground-penetrating radar has located 751 more about 160 kilometres east of Regina.
That’s where the Marieval Indian Residential School operated between 1899 and 1997.
Chief Bobby Cameron, head of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations, says Canada had its own concentration camps, only they were called residential schools.
He suspects this is just the beginning of grave discoveries, adding First Nations expect and demand a full public inquiry.
The prime minister calls the latest discovery a shameful reminder of the systemic racism, discrimination and injustice that Indigenous peoples have faced, and continue to face.
