Acting top soldier, Lt.-Gen. Wayne Eyre has decided that Vice-Admiral Craig Baines will continue serving as head of the navy despite the public backlash over his decision to play a round of golf earlier this month with former chief of Defence Staff Jonathan Vance, who’s under investigation for sexual misconduct.
In a statement Eyre says this showed ”poor judgement” but that he believes Baines can learn from his error and become a better leader.
”I will give hims this possibility to redeem himself and show us how to learn, grow, and help the healing process,” said Eyre.
The military’s second-in-command, Lt.-Gen. Mike Rouleau, who also played golf with Baines and Vance, resigned over the incident.
Rouleau says Baines likely would not have gone golfing had he not done so.
