Most of Ontario woke up in stage two of the province’s reopening plan this morning.

Stage two means long suffering personal care businesses like salons and barber shops can officially open. Many have been closed for months under the COVID-19 restrictions.

On top of that, groups of up to 25 people can gather outdoors and five people can gather indoors.

Outdoor attractions and events like performances can open with capacity rules.

The changes were originally scheduled to take place July 2 but were bumped up thanks to strong vaccination rates and other key indicators like new caseloads and ICU capacity all trending in the right direction.

Stage three is scheduled to occur in 21 days and health authorities say any early openings will be based on data and trends heading in the right direction.

Toronto Mayor John Tory says if people want to head into stage three sooner, it’s up to them to continue getting vaccinated.

“I hope people take note that thanks to them, (Toronto) is leading the country in terms of percentage (vaccinated),” Tory told CP24. “We’ve just to keep pushing that number up there and that will hasten the arrival of step three.”
