The woman who allegedly caused a crash during Saturday’s leg of the Tour de France has been arrested.
The spectator disrupted the men’s bicycle race during Stage 1 of the three-week event when she stepped onto the road to get her sign on TV. It was a message to her grandparents.
The sign stuck out too far into the road colliding with a German cyclist rider Tony Martin who was cycling near the head of the pack. Martin fell, which led to the subsequent crash of dozens of riders behind him.
The woman was arrested in northwest France, not far from where the crash happened.
The woman could face up to two years in prison and a fine of $35,000.
