Ontario Premier Doug Ford says has guaranteed his government will keep the temporary wage bump for some workers who staff long-term care homes and similar facilities.
A three-dollar-per-hour raise for personal support workers that was brought in during the pandemic has now been extended until August 23rd.
It’s been in place since last October, affecting more than 158-thousand workers in home care, long-term care, public hospitals and social services.
“I’ve always said PSW’s are overworked and underpaid and they deserve every single penny times ten so we’re going to keep that in place,” said Ford.
But the Premier’s office declined to elaborate on whether the temporary pay bump would be extended further or made permanent, or when full details of any plan would come.
