Ontario’s top two doctors are reacting to a controversial statement from the chief scientist at at World Health Organization suggesting that mixing vaccines is dangerous because there isn’t enough data to support it.

“We continue to advise Ontarians that mixing the mRNA vaccines, Pfizer and Moderna as well as mixing AstraZeneca and an mRNA vaccine is safe, it’s effective and it enables people to get their second dose sooner,” said Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Barbara Yaffe.

Ontario is following guidelines from Canada’s vaccine regulatory body based on on studies from Spain and Germany.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kieran Moore believes the W-H-O’s comments was “taken out of context.”

But just today, dozens opted out of getting their second vaccine at a mass clinic in Brampton after being told they’d have to mix and match.

Meanwhile, with the Delta variant accounting for nine-in-ten cases in Ontario, a heads up from the province’s chief medical officer.

“Delta will want to surge and return in September, if not earlier, all you have to do is look around the globe and see the increased activity in countries where Delta has gone unchecked.”

Dr. Moore adds all respiratory viruses return in congregate settings like workplaces and schools once the cooler fall weather arrives.

Over 17M doses of COVID vaccine have been administered with more than 7M Ontarians now fully immunized.
