The former leader of the federal Green Party is breaking her silence, as internal strife threatens the party’s future.

Elizabeth May is pushing back on rumours she has been involved in party power struggles, saying bluntly she has no role in any of the Greens’ governing bodies.

Some party executive members have been clashing with leader Annamie Paul on a wide range of issues, including a disagreement on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Liberal strategist Bob Richardson told Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with guest host Jane Brown, what’s been going on in the Green Party, is “amateur hour.”

“I think it’s been more of a movement than a real political party and I just don’t think that they have the structure in place for what’s required to elect members of parliament and to try and form a government,” Richardson explained, “And I think what was behind the curtain is what we’re seeing now unfortunately in front of the curtain.”

Richardson went on to say that the Greens will likely do poorly in an expected fall federal election.

A non-confidence motion on Annamie Paul’s leadership, originally planned for Tuesday, was cancelled.

Paul told a news conference on Monday, she plans to stay on and there will be no review of her leadership at least until after the Green’s national convention August 21st.

Annamie Paul will be Libby Znaimer‘s special guest on Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back Wednesday after the noon news.
