As Ontario is close to its target of 80% of those 12 and older having received their 1st vaccine shot, the province’s chief medical officer says only 66.7% are fully immunized – in other words 1.8-million still need a second dose.
”We must remember that the pandemic, in many areas of the world now, is in the unvaccinated population,” Dr. Kieran Moore points out.
He stresses the risk of getting COVID is 6.4 times higher in the unvaccinated compared with those fully immunized.
Dr. Moore says 35% of those aged 12 – 17 … 30% of those 18 – 29 … 26% aged 30 to 39 … and roughly one-in-five between 40 to 59 are unvaccinated.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada now has enough doses – over 66-million – to fully immunize everyone who’s eligible.
He adds there are no more excuses not to get a shot.
With the Delta variant and others circulating, Trudeau says it’s likely Canada will see a rise in infection in the coming months, but that the spike will primarily be limited to the unvaccinated, pointing out that only 0.5% of cases are in fully immunized people.
