As Ontario comes out of COVID-19, more unscreened and undiagnosed patients are anticipated to join the list, contributing to an expected rise in demand for procedures.
The Ford government says the plan will enable up to 67,000 additional surgeries and procedures to be performed.
Most of the money will go toward extending operating room hours; focusing on hardest-hit areas.
Funds are also being allocated to increase hours for diagnostic services, and a centralized system for managing wait times.
Opposition health critic Frances Gelinas describes the plan as ”incomplete” and ”underfunded.”
There are an estimated 200,000 people waiting for surgeries.
