MICHAEL TILSON THOMAS HAS BRAIN SURGERY

He’s the former music director of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.

Conductor Michael Tilson Thomas is withdrawing from performances for the next several months as he recovers from surgery to treat a brain tumour.

The Symphony’s 76-year old former music director says the hiatus will last at least through October

In a statement, he said doctors recently discovered the tumor and advised he have surgery immediately which he says he did, successfully.

Thomas, an eminent figure in the music industry known by the nickname M.T.T., stepped down as the Symphony’s music director last year after a quarter of a century at the helm.
