Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau says the effort to airlift Afghans out of the capital Kabul will soon end.
”Yes, in the coming days this phase will end,” explained Trudeau during an election campaign stop in Surrey.
”But there’s a lot more work to do that we will continue to do to keep helping the Afghan people.”
Earlier in the day a government source said Canada could have only 24 to 48-hours to get planes in and out of Kabul.
Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino says as of Tuesday, Canada had airlifted over 2,700 out of the capital, including Afghan refugees, Canadian citizens, permanent residents and other foreign nationals.
He adds as of today, nearly 1,000 Afghans have arrived in Canada and more than 300 have finished quarantine.
