Elections Canada says more Canadians are voting at advance polls than ever.

Polls were open over the weekend and Elections Canada says and estimated 5.78 million Canadians voted.

That’s up 18.5% from the nearly 4.9 million who voted in the 2019 election and 57% from 2015.

“I want to thank the electors who took advantage of advance polls for their patience and their help in making this a safe experience for everyone. I also want to thank the tens of thousands of election workers for making this possible,” Chief Electoral Officer Stephane Perrault said in a news release.

Advanced polls closed at 9pm local time on Monday.

Election day is scheduled for September 20.
