When Rolling Stone first put out the list 17 years ago, Bob Dylan’s ”Like A Rolling Stone” was Number One, but the music magazine points out so much has changed since 2004.
So it surveyed more than 250 artists, writers, and industry figures to come up with a redo list full of historic favourites, world changing anthems and new classics.
Dylan’s classic drops to fourth and the new Number One is Aretha Franklin’s ”Respect.”
More than half of the songs on the new list – 254 – were not on the one back in 2004.
In second spot, Public Enemy’s ”Fight The Power,” followed by Sam Cooke’s ”A Change is Gonna Come.”
Rounding out the Top 10 — Nirvana’s ”Smells Like Teen Spirit” (5)
Marvin Gaye’s ”What’s Going On” (6) ,
The Beatles ”Strawberry Fields Forever” (7)
Missy Elliot’s ”Get Ur Freak On” (8)
Fleetwood Mac’s ”Dreams” (9)
Outkast’s ”Hey Ya!” (10)
