Canada Post has revealed a new commemorative stamp honouring late Canadian acting legend Christopher Plummer.

The stamp features illustrations of Plummer in several prominent roles from his 70-year career including his performance as Prospero in Stratford’s The Tempest which appears in the foreground.

The background includes depictions of four other roles; King Lear, Rudyard Kipling, Captain Georg von Trapp and John Barrymore.

The Toronto-born stage and screen star, who was thrilled about the stamp idea, consulted along the way before he died at his Connecticut home in February at age 91.

His widow Elaine Taylor Plummer was among those on hand at a Toronto event where details were revealed.

“It’s sort of fitting that it’s here at the Elgin Theatre where he played and filmed Barrymore that this stamp be introduced, he’s been honoured all over the world but this meant the most to him.”
