A pianist from Canada is among the 12 finalists for the 18th edition of the prestigious Frederic Chopin piano competition in Warsaw.

Representing Canada is Paris-born, Montreal-raised Bruce Xiaoyu Lui.

In a sign of appreciation for the competitors’ artistry, the jury has admitted two more finalists than the regulations foresee.

Each competitor will play one of Chopin’s two piano concertos, with orchestra, at the Warsaw Philharmonic Concert Hall.

The winner is to be announced Wednesday.
