Russian opera star Anna Netrebko needs shoulder surgery and has canceled performances in Verdi’s Nabucco at the Vienna State Opera.

The 50-year-old soprano was to have sung Abigaille on Nov. 1, 6, 9 and 12, the first three with Amartuvshin Enkhbat in the title role and the last with Placido Domingo.

Netrebko says she’s been suffering from debilitating pain in her shoulder for months and her doctor has advised she undergo surgery followed by rehab.

Last September the singer was hospitalized for five days with COVID-19. She was admitted just days after performing at the Bolshoi Theatre with another singer who later tested positive.
