A Stratford Festival legend is being remembered.

Martha Henry has passed away from cancer at the age of 83, just twelve days after her final performance in Three Tall Women.

Just three years ago, the Canadian stage actor took on on the theatre’s best-known roles Prospero  in The Tempest, 6 years after she debuted at the festival in the same play in the role of Miranda.

Henry died just after midnight Thursday of cancer at her home in Stratford.

She spent a remarkable 47 seasons at the southern Ontario theatre festival between 1962 and 2021, performing in more than 70 productions and directing 14 more.

In her honour, the marquee lights of all the Mirvish theatres will be dimmed at the traditional curtain time 8 p.m.
