A Canadian has won one of the world’s most prestigious piano competitions.
Montreal’s Bruce Liu has won the 18th Frederic Chopin international piano competition in Warsaw.
The 24-year old was the final performer of the 12 finalists. He played Chopin’s concerto in E minor, opus 1.
Liu is a graduate the Conservatoire de Montréal and later studied at the Université de Montréal.
Liu takes home $57,000 for the win.
A second Canadian pianist, 14-year old J.J. Jun Li Bui, a student at the Toronto Conservatory, placed 6th in the competition and won $10,000.
