TV, film and stage actor Peter Scolari has died.
His manager says the 66-year-old Scolari had been ill with cancer for two years.
In 1980, Scolari and an unknown actor named Tom Hanks, got their big break in TV’s sit-com ”Bosom Buddies,” where they dressed as women in order to move into an affordable women-only residence.
That started a life-long friendship, and for Scolari, a life-long career on shows where he might not have been the star, but was a memorable part of the cast.
He received 3 Emmy nominations for his role as Michael Harris on ”Newhart” and an Emmy win in 2016 for playing Lena Dunham’s father on ”Girls.”
Scolari also appeared on ”Murphy Brown,” ”The West Wing,” ”ER,” and ”Ally McBeal.”
He also starred in Broadway productions of ”Hairspray,” ”Wicked,” and ”Lucky Guy,” alongside Hanks.
