Representatives with the Canadian Armed Forces have dismissed reports from the military’s own staff who revealed that residents at two Ontario nursing homes died of dehydration.
In fact, they say the unsubstantiated allegations stemmed from an emotionally charged witness statement.
According to a review by the Ford Progressive Conservative government into the allegations by military staff, the Canadian Armed Forces says it cannot definitively comment on what caused the residents to die because it did not conduct forensic investigations or autopsies into the fatalities.
These findings by the government stand in stark contrast to reports by the Forces personnel deployed to the two COVID-19 stricken Toronto homes last year to provide humanitarian support and by the Long Term Care Ministry’s own inspectors who documented a number of cases at one of the homes where residents who needed help eating and drinking failed to receive proper care.
The nursing homes in question are Downsview Long Term Care Centre and Hawthorne Place Care Centre.

In May, the military personnel reported 26 residents died due to dehydration and at Hawthorne Place, residents died from non COVID-19 causes more than what would be considered normal.
