She was a real life LAPD detective who, along with her partner, was the model for the TV Series “Cagney and Lacy.”
Her name was Margaret York and she became the force’s highest ranking woman as she and a detective partner fought crime in the streets and sexism in the ranks.
York was the first female deputy chief of the LAPD and half of the force’s first all-female homicide team, which inspired the TV show.
She was married to Judge Lance Ito who famously presided over the OJ Simpson murder trial in 1995.
Margaret York has died following a series of illnesses.
She was 80.
