On this Remembrance Day, Canadians gather at cenotaphs and monuments to honour those who fought and died for Canada’s freedom, including ceremonies here in Toronto at Old City Hall and Queen’s Park. The Queen’s Park event is not open to the public.
A spokesperson for the Royal Canadian Legion says this Remembrance Day will look somewhat closer to normal, compared with last year when the pandemic prevented crowds from observing the ceremonies. Masks and physical distancing are still required for anyone planning to attend ceremonies.
All ceremonies begin at 10:45 am:
Toronto Old City Hall Cenotaph
60 Queen St. W (Bay & Queen streets)
Scarborough War Memorial (Danforth and Kingston roads)
East York Civic Centre Memorial Gardens
850 Coxwell Avenue
Etobicoke Civic Centre Cenotaph
399 The West Mall
York Civic Centre Cenotaph
2700 Eglinton Avenue West
Fort York National Historic Site
250 Fort York Blvd.
A ceremony will also take place indoors in North York, where attendance is by invitation only.
There is also a traditional sunrise ceremony at Prospect Cemetery at 8am.
The public is encouraged to watch the livestream of the Remembrance Day ceremony at Old City Hall, on the City’s Youtube channel.
Individuals are also reminded to stay home if they are sick/experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. Following these health and safety guidelines will allow the City to respectfully conduct its Remembrance Day ceremonies with dignity and solemnity.
