Hospitalizations and ICU occupancy due to COVID are stable now, but intensive care occupancy is likely to rise to about 200 patients by the new year.
That’s according to the latest modelling from the Ontario COVID Science Advisory Table, which shows cases are rising in most provincial public health units.
Testing is flat, but positivity is rising in several public health units, which indicates a real rise in cases.
Other highlights from the modelling, the unvaccinated have a six-times greater risk of symptomatic COVID, a 11-times higher risk of being hospitalized and 26-times higher risk of ending up in intensive care.
The provincial pandemic science advisors also say pausing re-opening is the right decision at this time and policies that support wearing masks indoors and getting fully protected will be helpful.
