He was the forgotten man in a triple murder case that saw him and Rubin (Hurricane) Carter convicted and later exonerated.

John Artis has died.

Artis and Carter were convicted of killing three people in a New Jersey bar and sentenced to life.  Artis served twenty years before being freed.

The case was immortalized by Bob Dylan with his song, “Hurricane.”

In 1999, Canada’s Norman Jewison turned the story into a movie called “The Hurricane” which starred Denzel Washington.

Carter had moved to Canada and died in Toronto in 2014 at the age of 76.

John Artis died yesterday at his home in Virginia.

He was 75.
