We Canadians will find out details of the Trudeau government’s updated agenda during Tuesday’s speech from the throne, to be delivered by Governor General Mary Simon.

The speech is expected to highlight plans to finish the fight against COVID-19 and improve offerings for affordable housing and childcare.

But what about older Canadians?

Bill Van Gorder is chief policy officer at CARP – A New Vision of Aging and says healthcare is always important for Zoomers but addressing the rising cost of living is the biggest issue.

“And they don’t think the government has paid or will pay enough attention to it,” Van Gorder told Jane Brown on Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back, “They were very disappointed during the election that it wasn’t a bigger issue and frankly the political parties, the political leaders, none of them really seem to understand the financial situation that COVID has left seniors in this country.”

The cost of living in Canada was up nearly 5 percent from October of 2020 to October of this year, mostly reflected in grocery and gas prices.

The procession ahead of the speech from the throne begins just after 12:30 Tuesday afternoon.
