A group of ten patients at SickKids’ Hospital have become the first to get vaccinated against COVID-19 in Ontario at a special clinic due to an early shipment of the Pfizer vaccine.

Mayor John Tory says almost all the 30,000 appointments made available Tuesday morning were booked within hours. And because of the demand, an additional 17,000 appointments have been added over the next few weeks at mass vaccination sites.

“The kids are getting the vaccinations, they’re going to be safe and have a good time because we’re trying to make it fun and we tell them they’re superheroes” said Tory.

Toronto school-based mobile clinics will also begin this week and parents will receive information directly from their school.

Families were able to start booking shots for kids across Ontario Tuesday morning and by mid afternoon, 84,000 appointments were booked.
