It was a night to remember for Gordon Lightfoot at Massey Hall.

Lightfoot gave the first performance at the renovated hall since it closed in 2018. It was a fitting bookend for the three years of silence at the iconic venue as Lightfoot gave the last performance before it closed.

“It’s like an emotional experience doing this engagement,” said Lightfoot. “Every time we’ve done it all through the years, I’m really happy to be here.”

If that wasn’t enough for the Orillia native who now calls Toronto home, he was also presented with the key to the city by Mayor John Tory.

“He has done us proud as a Canadian artist,” said Tory. “I’m determined to see that we celebrate and honour and recognize our artists of the caliber of Gordon Lightfoot.”

Lightfoot has two more performances at Massey Hall. He’s scheduled to perform Friday and Saturday nights.
