In a reversal of what happened during four years of Donald Trump in the White House, U.S. President Joe Biden is planning to attend Sunday’s Kennedy Center Honors and ironically, the contributions of two Canadians are being celebrated.

Singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell, born in Fort McLeod, Alberta 78 years ago and

77 year old Toronto born, Lorne Michaels, the comedic genius behind Saturday Night Live, join actor Bette Midler, opera singer Justino Díaz and Motown producer Berry Gordy as those whose contributions to the arts are being celebrated.

A sitting U.S. president hasn’t attended since Barak Obama was there in 2015.

Trump stayed away from the ceremonies after several honorees, including television producer Norman Lear, were critical of him and his presidency.
