People 50 and over in Ontario can start booking booster shots on December 13th as long as it’s been 168 days since the second dose.

In January, eligibility will be expanded based on age and risk.

Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer says we have a “tough winter ahead of us” with the DELTA variant and now five confirmed cases in Ontario of the OMICRON variant.

“And additional cases will likely be identified in the near future, there continues to be evolving information on the variant`s transmissibility, its severity and its impact on the vaccine effectiveness and we continue to closely monitor the situation globally and in Ontario,” said Dr. Keiran Moore.

The Johnson and Johnson one-dose vaccine is now available to anyone 18 and over who have an allergy to mRNA vaccines or at the request of people who have not been vaccinated yet.

In addition, dialysis patients will now be eligible for third dose 56 days after second dose and re-vaccination is now approved for transplant patients.

So far, about 20 per cent of those 70 and over have received their third dose.
