All Canadians 50 and older are now being urged to get a COVID-19 booster shot.
The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) is ”strongly recommending” they do so in response to reports of waning protection against the virus.
The group also says a booster for those adults under 50 is a ”discretionary recommendation.”
While NACI is using the term ”booster dose” for the third shot, it’s reviewing evidence that suggest a third shot should be considered part of the ”primary series.”
In other words, that a person should not be considered fully immunized until they’ve had three doses of an mRNA vaccine.
And while recommending boosters for all adults 18 and older, NACI says the top priority for provinces and territories now should be getting vaccines to those who have not yet had their first two.
