A cluster of at least 30 COVID-19 cases, suspected of being linked to the new Omicron variant, is now being investigated by staff at the London, Ontario Health Unit.

As of Tuesday morning, there are 13 confirmed cases of the Omicron variant in Ontario.

We should find out more information about the Omicron variant during a briefing today by Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kieran Moore.

We will also get new modelling numbers from members of the COVID-19 science advisory table, as the seven day average of daily cases climbs to 940, a number not seen since the end of the third wave in early June.

Advisory Table Scientific Director Dr. Peter Juni told Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with guest host Jane Brown, Ontario will soon be rolling out a plan for more rapid testing in the province to help curb COVID cases.

“Yes, stay tuned, we’re about to publish a briefing on rapid testing on Wednesday, and I agree with you. We can be doing so much more there and while we’re not in a position where we need to do it in Toronto. Remember compared with the U.K., this is paradise here. In places like Algoma etc. (where counts are higher), rapid tests should also play a role in schools and potentially in other settings,” explained Dr. Juni. A plan was earlier announced by the Ford PCs to send home five rapid tests with every Ontario public school student before the holiday break.
