Ontario’s Premier meets with his cabinet ministers at 10 o’clock Friday morning to consider next steps, as the province sees its highest COVID-19 case counts since the end of May.

It is now being widely reported that the Doug Ford Progressive Conservatives will consider eliminating allowing a paper copy of the COVID-19 vaccine certificate, making the downloadable QR code mandatory instead for access to places where double vaccination against COVID-19 is required.

A number of other measures are also said to be up for discussion including re-imposing restrictions on businesses and new guidance for gathering over the holidays, although word is that they are not considering closing schools or imposing lockdowns.

It’s also expected that vaccine passports will be required longer than January 17th which was the original date for phasing them out.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kieran Moore said earlier in the week, that a final decision on this would be made after the holidays, and all options will be considered.

Dr. Moore plans to provide an update on the latest guidance at 2pm Friday.
