While many are cancelling Christmas plans amid soaring COVID-19 infections, millions of Americans are travelling for the holidays in fact more than last year.

Almost 110 million Americans will travel over the holidays according to the American Automobile Association, about 34 percent more than last year. This means the number of holiday travellers this season is almost equal to 2019 levels.

Most everyone will travel by car but airlines are seeing a big boost in the number of passengers — a 184 percent increase.

Ticket prices for Christmas week are up 5 percent and car rentals have increased an average of 20 percent. Although gas prices have been falling in the United states it’s still a dollar more per gallon than this time last year.
