1971’s The Last Picture Show was Peter Bogdanovich’s second movie. It was nominated for eight Oscars.

He would also direct hits like “Whats Up, Doc?” and “Paper Moon.”

Bodganovic died early Thursday morning at his home in Los Angeles of natural causes. He was 82 years old.

On Twitter, director Guillermo del Toro lauded Bogdanovich, calling him “a champion of cinema” who had “single-handedly interviewed and enshrined the lives and work of more classic filmmakers than almost anyone else in his generation.”
