An internal review blames infighting, poor outreach toward ethnic voters in urban centres and Erin O’Toole’s disappointing communication for the Conservatives election loss last September.
The review was carried out by former Tory MP James Cumming.
It involved about interviews with about 400 caucus members, Tory insiders and campaign strategists.
The review is said to contain ”dozens” of recommendations aimed at making the party ready for the next election, that O’Toole’s accepted ”all” of them, and that none recommends he step down.
Apparently, Cumming was told O’Toole’s campaign started strongly be effectively dodging traditional contentious issues like abortion and climate change, but then his communication became a lot less effective in the final weeks of the campaign.
Cumming is reportedly recommending the party do better at getting O’Toole known to Canadians.
