SCI-FI SFX MASTER DOUGLAS TRUMBULL DIES AT 79

The visual effects master who who provided images of the future and of space in films like “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “Blade Runner” and the 1968 classic “2001; A Space Odyssey,” has died.

Visual effects master Douglas Trumbull received three Academy Award nominations for his movie work.  In 2012 he received a special technical Oscar for his contributions to the industry.  He also received a special scientific and engineering award for helping to design the Showscan Camera System.

Douglas Trumbell was 79.
