The Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association and Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association – supported by the City of Windsor and Chamber of Commerce – are in court seeking an end to the blockade at the Ambassador Bridge.
Mayor Drew Dilkens hopes a Superior Court judge will consider the request for an injunction later today, and that the city ”will work with police to enforce” it.
Dilkens calls the protest in his city a ”national crisis” due to the economic impact, which he puts at $400-million each day.
”There is a variety of issues that have been expressed … but this has moved more into an anti-government protest.
So this has taken on a life of its own way above and beyond a trucker protest,” adds Dilkens.
”This is why we can’t just let this lawlessness happen.”
The Windsor mayor hopes protesters ”see the light of day” and leave on their own.
