Ottawa’s interim police chief says “with every hour,” law enforcement is getting closer to delivering on its promise to clear downtown city streets and give them back to residents.

Steve Bell said as of yesterday afternoon, 191 people had been arrested, 107 people had been charged and 389 charges had been laid in connection with the three-weeks of anti-government blockades in the nation’s capital.

Charges laid so far include obstructing police, disobeying a court order, assault, mischief, possessing a weapon and assaulting a police officer.

On Wellington Street in front of Parliament Hill, the epicentre of the truck and R-V convoy’s party was entirely dismantled over the weekend.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted that his government is offering support to downtown businesses that were impacted by the illegal blockades and occupations.

The House of Commons is to vote tonight on the Liberal government’s decision last week to invoke the Emergencies Act to clear the crippling demonstration.
