U-S President Joe Biden has nominated the first black woman to the Supreme Court.
“I believe it’s time we have a court that reflects the full talents and greatness of our nation with a nominee of extraordinary qualifications,” said Biden.
In accepting the nomination, Ketanji Brown Jackson praised the support she’s received from her family, noting her father was a lawyer who inspired her to go to law school. She also comes from a family of law enforcement — her brother and uncles served as police officers.
“I am truly humbled by the extraordinary honour of this nomination.”
If confirmed, she will fill the seat on the nine-member court that will be vacated by Justice Stephen Breyer.
