Broadway’s Cort Theatre is getting a new name.
It’s being renamed the James Earl Jones Theatre in honour of the actor who famously voiced the part of Darth Vader in Star Wars.
The 91-year old has has made 21 Broadway appearances and won two competitive Tony Awards.
The Cort Theatre is a 110-year old landmark on West 48th Street. It becomes the second Broadway house re-named for a Black artist. The August Wilson Theatre was renamed for the American playwright shortly after his death in 2005.
In a telephone interview, the Jones said he was honoured by the news.
