There is every indication Christine Elliott will announce Friday she will not be running for re-election in June.

The PC MPP for Newmarket-Aurora, health minister and deputy premier has been Doug Ford’s right hand minister since he was elected in 2018 and has been a prominent provincial leader during the COVID-19 crisis.

Her departure follows the earlier resignation of another high profile minister Rod Phillips in January.

Christine Elliott was first elected to the provincial legislature in 2006 before resigning in 2015 following her second failed bid to become leader of the Progressive Conservative party.

In 2018, she lost a third bid to Doug Ford.
