He left federal politics nearly 24 years ago, but Jean Charest will launch his campaign to become leader of the Federal Conservatives.

The 63-year-old will announce his bid at a Calgary brewery Thursday night.

He launched a new Twitter account and this campaign slogan is “Built To Win.”

Charest led the Quebec Liberal Party to three consecutive wins in 2002, 2007 and 2008 before he was defeated in 2012.

Ottawa-area MP Pierre Poilievre was the first to declare his candidacy for Conservative leader and Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown is expected to enter the leadership race on Sunday.

Rookie Conservative MP Leslyn Lewis, and Independent Ontario MPP Roman Barber have also announced their intentions to run.

Political observers view Charest as a more moderate candidate than his current competitors.

The is the third Conservative leadership contest since 2017.
