Through the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel program, that opened today, those looking to come here temporarily will able able to stay longer than previously announced.
When Ottawa recently said it would be offering Ukrainians a safe haven, it was to be for two-years before deciding whether to apply to remain permanently.
That’s now extended to three-years while also expanding eligibility to include immediate family members of any nationality.
The immigration minister’s office says it’ll take an average of two-weeks to process for standard, non-complicated cases.
While minister Sean Fraser has said there will be ”no limit” to the number of applications Canada’s willing to accept from those coming temporarily, he pointed out most will want to return home once it’s safe.
