We’ve yet to hear any specific plans here in Ontario around giving fourth doses of COVID vaccine to people 65 and over, although experts have been musing about the possibility for weeks.

But stateside, a second COVID booster shot could soon be authorized for older Americans.

The New York Times reports emergency use authorization is expected to come this week.

The second vaccine booster would essentially be a fourth dose of the Pfizer or Moderna mRNA vaccines.

And both companies have asked the U.S. FDA for the fourth booster authorization.

COVID infections are starting to slowly rise again, say health officials, due to the spread of the BA.2 variant.

Fourth doses have been giving to nursing home residents in Ontario, as well as people considered immuno-compromised.
