Amid a sixth COVID-19 wave, the opposition at Queen’s park want Doug Ford to explain how his government plans to respond to rising infections.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says the Chief Medical Officer is watching the numbers closely but at this point, there will be no change in public health measures and to “get on with our lives.”
“At this point it doesn’t appear necessary that we need to take further precautions but we’ll continue to follow it and as Doctor Moore gives us advice, we’ll certainly be ready to take it,” remarked Elliott.
It’s been three weeks since the Chief Medical Officer has held a news conference and when asked if Dr. Moore has been in hiding and unavailable for interviews, Minister Elliott responded “not at all”.
“I think it’s very good news, in fact, that he’s not doing weekly updates because we’ve moved past that at this point,”said Elliott.
Wastewater monitoring suggests cases have been rising throughout the month and the latest data reported today shows a slight increase in hospitalizations.
Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy has tested positive COVID and is experiencing minor symptoms. He’s working from home.
Minister Elliott made her remarks after announcing another $3 million to modernize and expand North York General Hospital.
