A Toronto ICU doctor, who’s become well known during the pandemic, is calling out the Ford PCs at Queen’s Park for failing to acknowledge a sixth wave of COVID-19.
Doctor Michael Warner at Michael Garron Hospital says right now the governing Ford Tories are pretending it isn’t happening, and he says, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kieran Moore is no where to be found.
“I think the average person in the public isn’t really sure what to do,” Dr. Warner told CP24 “You’re left to crowd source among your acquaintances to determine how many people you know have COVID. There’s no real data other than waste water that’s clearly going up but nothing’s being done. There’s really no incremental public health measures that would be considered reasonable. (PCR) testing is hard to find and early therapeutics are also difficult to find. We’re being told that we have enough ICU beds to handle any kind of surge. But the goal should be to not have any patients in ICU at all.”
Dr. Warner wants to see more early PCR testing so therapeutics can be provided in a timely manner. He’s also calling for masks in grocery stores, pharmacies and schools, to protect the immuno-compromised.
As of Tuesday, there were 1,091 COVID patients in Ontario hospitals, a 40 percent increase in one week. There were 175 patients in ICUs, up 8 patients from the week before.
