Canada’s unemployment rate fell to its lowest rate since 1976.
Statistics Canada latest report says the economy added 72,500 jobs in March, pushing the jobless rate down from 5.5 per cent in February to 5.3 per cent.
But the unemployment rate would have been 7.2 per cent if it included all the people who want a job but didn’t look for one.
Job gains were concentrated in Ontario and Quebec and driven by women 55 and older and 25-to-54-year-old men taking primarily part-time work.
