It’s a tiny book, created by English author and poet Charlotte Brontë when she was 13 in 1828.
It’s for sale at the 2022 New York International Antiquarian Book Fair with a price tag of $1.25 million. That is believed to be the highest price ever associated with a female author. The previous record was set last year when a first edition of Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’ sold for $1.17 million.
The 62nd edition of the book fair runs all weekend at the Park Avenue Armoury in Manhattan
Also on offer, among many, many others, are a guide to tennis published in 1555 and handwritten notes from the world’s first atom bomb test.
