A national inquiry has been launched into the federal government’s use of the Emergencies Act to bring an end to Freedom Convoy trucker protests and blockades. Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino was vague on details pointing out this is just the beginning of the process.
“Our intent is to ensure that the judge has access to the information he needs to fulfill his responsibilities under the parameters that have been set under the order in council and I would point out, the parameters are there to guide the judge, but there is discretion there including with regards to compelling witnesses, compelling documents including classified information,” said Mendicino.
